Old City :

We arrived into Bikaner on the bus from Jaisalmer. Of course, the bus was full (with people standing too) and late!! India time is alot like African time - you get there when you get there!! :-) We caught a rickshaw to our hotel which was amazing.

Gajner Sanctuary :

The Gajner wildlife Sanctuary is located at a distance of 32 kms. from the town of Bikaner. In the days of yore Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary used to be royal hunting grounds of the Maharaja of Bikaner. There is a sparkling lake inside the sanctuary and in the sweltering summer months one can see a variety of wild animals that come to the lake to quench their thirst.

Kolayat Temple :
A famous pilgrimage spot with a temple dedicated to Kapil Muni (saint) is situated 50 kms from Bikaner on highway leading to Jaisalmer.Kapil  Muni sat in meditation near lake.Muni was propounder of Sankhya Philosophy.

Lallgarh Palace :
Built in the year 1902 by one of the most outstanding personalities of princely India, Maharaja Ganga singhji. The lallgarh palace is sheer poetry in sandstone. Constructed during the first half of the nineteenth century, it defies the bleak and rugged reality  of the Thar desert. The Lallagarh palace is a complete integrated example of Indo-Saracenic architecture, a perfect example of Sir Swinton Jacob’s creations. The palace has played host to a number of dignitaries from all over the world.

Camel Breeding Farm :

The Camel Breeding Farm at Bikaner, Rajasthan, India employs Raika's or Rebari's who are local camel breeders and have been in the profession of taking care of camels since the ancient times. Watch young camels frolicking and feeding as you tour the massive Camel Breeding Farm and treat yourself to some nutritious thick camel milk.

Junagarh Fort :

Jungadh Fort has remained unconquered till date. This fort was built in 15th century by one of the most able and trusted generals of Akbar, Raja Rai Singh.

Karni Mata Temple :
Karni Mata Temple, 30 miles south of Bikaner in Deshnoke, is one of the strangest holy spots in India. We left Bikaner and were on route to Jodhpur when Bela asked us if we wanted to stop at the "Rat Temple" which was on our way. We had read about the temple in our guide books and the thought of rats running around made us a little squeamish. However, we agreed to stop and found the rats quite small and harmless.

Ganga Museum :
Ganga Mahal, the imposing halls added by Maharaja Gailga Singh, now houses the Fort Museum. It contains a fine collection of antique Rajput, weaponry, jade handle daggers, camel hide d17als (shields) and inlaid handguns and camel guns. Cold and silver howdahs, jhulas, kis and a firstworld war biplane are on view.

Kalibangan :

In 1958, archaeologists led by Dr. A. Ghosh discovered that the village was an Indus Valley Civilization site. According to archaeological evidence, the Indus Valley culture existed at the site from the proto-Harappan age (3500 BC - 2500 BC) to the Harappan age (2500 BC - 1750 BC). Kalibangan is known to be the earliest town in the history of India to be destroyed by an earthquake.
